The transfer market in the summer is going to be dominated by strikers. Several top clubs across Europe want to sign prolific goalscorers. Bayern Munich is one of the big clubs that are eager to sign a new number after struggling for goals in decisive games this season.
The record Bundesliga champions suffered a major blow last summer as Robert Lewandowski left the club to join FC Barcelona. The Polish striker consistently scored at least 40 goals per season for eight years in Bavaria. His departure certainly created problems for Die Roten as they lacked the cutting edge in the final third throughout the season.
Bayern decided to replace Lewandowski by signing Sadio Mane and Mathys Tel last summer. Mane is struggling for consistency this season, while Tel is still developing into a good striker. The club hierarchy is now ready to pay a big fee to get a number nine in the summer.
Die Roten is closely following several strikers across Europe. According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), Lille’s Jonathan David is one of the forwards Bayern is following ahead of the summer transfer window. The Canadian forward has been in sensational form for Lille this season, scoring 21 goals in Ligue 1.
Bayern will face serious competition for David. L’Equipe has reported that Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United, and PSG are also interested in the 23-year-old forward. With two years left on his contract at Lille, David is likely to leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Jonathan David took some time to settle at Lille after arriving from Gent in 2020. The Canadian forward is currently averaging one goal every two games for Lille. Apart from playing as a number nine, David can also operate in the number ten role behind the striker.

The Canadian forward may not be the first-choice option for Bayern Munich in the summer. The Bavarian club needs a traditional number nine that can hit the ground running next season. The likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen have been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria.
David can become the second choice option for Die Roten if they fail to get their prime target for the number nine role. Thomas Tuchel is set to hold talks with Hasan Salihamidzic soon to discuss transfer targets for the number nine position. Tuchel reportedly admires Osimhen, but he may turn out to be very expensive for them in the summer.
