After the poor results in cup competitions in the last two weeks, the upcoming summer transfer window is crucial for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club needs additions in key areas to compete on all fronts next season. Along with arrivals, Bayern will also trim the squad to balance the books.

One big player that is certain to leave Die Roten in the summer is Daley Blind. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern has no plans to extend Blind’s contract. The Dutch defender will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Daley Blind arrived in Bavaria at the start of January. The defending Bundesliga champions signed Blind to provide more cover in the left-back and center-back position after Lucas Hernandez suffered a serious injury while playing for France at the World Cup 2022. Ajax had terminated Blind’s contract, so he was available on a free transfer during the winter window.

Blind has largely been a fringe player since arriving at Die Roten. He has managed to get only five appearances across all competitions for Bayern in the last four months. Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel have largely played Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano in central defense, so Blind struggled to get playing time in this position.

Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies is the first-choice left-back at Bayern. In the absence of Davies, Bayern has often deployed Joao Cancelo in this position, which further decreased Blind’s chances of getting meaningful game time in Bavaria. Noussair Mazraoui can also slot in the left-back position if needed, so it makes no sense for Bayern to hand a new deal to Blind at the end of the season.

The Bavarian club always considered Blind as an emergency option if there is an injury crisis in the defensive department of the squad. With Hernandez likely to make his return in June, Bayern is well covered in all the defensive positions of the squad.

Blind will have several options on the table in the summer due to his versatility. He gives a lot of tactical flexibility to coaches. The big clubs may not come calling for him, but Blind will definitely play in one of the top five leagues of Europe. For now, Blind’s chapter at Bayern comes to an end when the season is completed in a few weeks.

Daley Blind will hope to play a role for Bayern in the title race before bidding goodbye to his teammates. The Bavarian club slipped to second position last weekend after a 3-1 defeat against Mainz. They trail Borussia Dortmund by a point. With six games left in the Bundesliga, Bayern needs to win every weekend and hope Dortmund slips in a game to retain the league title.
