Matchday 28 of the Bundesliga was a complete nightmare for Bayern Munich. The defending champions slipped to second position in the points table after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Mainz. Die Roten conceded three goals in the space of 15 minutes midway through the second half to give all three points to Mainz.

Along with the poor result, Bayern also suffered a blow on the injury front during the defeat against Mainz. Alphonso Davies was substituted in the ninth minute of the game due to a hamstring injury. The Canadian full-back was distraught after the early withdrawal in such a crucial game.

Bayern has confirmed that Davies will be out of action for a few days, but AZ is reporting that the Canadian full-back may not play again this season. It is a big blow for Bayern since they need all their best players fit for the last six games of the season to get maximum points.

Davies has contributed with nine goals and assists for Die Roten this season. His form has dipped a bit in the past few weeks, but he remains a big asset for Bayern at both ends of the pitch. The Bavarian club is expected to offer him a new contract in the summer to fend off interest from other big clubs in Europe.

In the absence of Davies, Tuchel is likely to use Joao Cancelo in the left-back position. The Portuguese full-back has consistently played in this position for Manchester City over the past few seasons. He came off the bench against Mainz to provide an assist for Bayern’s solitary goal in the game.

Apart from Davies, Noussair Mazraoui can also play in the left-back position. He did well for Morocco in the same position during World Cup 2022. The former Ajax full-back has been frustrated with the lack of opportunities in Ruckrunde. The next six league games will provide Mazraoui the opportunity to impress Tuchel.

Josip Stanisic and Daley Blind are the other options Tuchel can use in the left-back position over the next few weeks. Both players have the experience of playing in this position, so there will be no adaptation issues.

Next. Bayern may look to sign one more midfielder in summer. dark

Bayern will host Hertha Berlin on Sunday. Apart from Davies, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also a doubt for this game. Lucas Hernandez is steadily increasing the intensity of training, but he is unlikely to return before the end of the season. Manuel Neuer will also return before the start of pre-season as he starts training with the ball.
