Bayern Munich: Ryan Gravenberch holds talks with Liverpool
The 2022/23 season has entered its final phase. Along with achieving the immediate sporting targets, clubs also start working on the transfers for the summer window. Bayern Munich has also probably started the groundwork for possible transfer targets. The Bavarian club is also expected to receive offers for players, as one player has already held talks with a Premier League side.
According to The Times in the UK, Liverpool has already started working on a deal to sign Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool had sent one of their representatives to hold talks with Gravenberch’s father. The Dutch midfielder will look for a transfer away from Bayern if he doesn’t get assurances over playing time for next season.
Apart from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Gravenberch. Manchester United’s Erik Ten Hag tried to sign him last summer, but he had already agreed to a move to Bayern. Ten Hag and Gravenberch have previously worked together at Ajax.
The Times has also reported that the transfer fee for Gravenberch will be close to £25 million. Bayern has consistently insisted that Ryan Gravenberch remains part of their long-term plans, but it has not reflected on the pitch when it comes to giving the Dutch midfielder adequate playing time.
Gravenberch was reportedly frustrated under Julian Nagelsmann. The German coach was reportedly not convinced with the work of Gravenberch out of possession. Things have not changed under Thomas Tuchel since the Dutch midfielder is yet to get a start under the former Chelsea head coach.
The Dutch midfielder has also admitted that he has not enjoyed his debut season at Bayern. He doesn’t regret joining Bayern last summer, but inadequate playing time cannot continue for him next season.
Die Roten has struggled to integrate young midfielders into the starting XI during the past five seasons. Joshua Kimmich, Thiago, and Leon Goretzka have played regularly in the central midfield. After the departure of Thiago in 2020, Kimmich and Goretzka have become the first-choice midfield pairing for Bayern.
Players such as Marc Roca, Gravenberch, Renato Sanches, and Mickael Cuisance have found it difficult to get playing time at Bayern. Gravenberch may have to follow the route taken by the other four midfielders to get regular playing time. He will get a chance to play regularly at Liverpool since the Merseyside club is looking to rebuild their midfield department.

Liverpool may have started the groundwork to complete the signing of Gravenberch, but Manchester United cannot be ruled out just yet. Ten Hag also needs a midfielder in the squad, so he may look to bring Gravenberch to Manchester. Since Bayern may find it difficult to give game-time assurances, the Dutch midfielder’s departure in the summer is looking likely.
