Bayern Munich is looking to find a breakthrough in contract talks with two key center-backs before the end of the season. Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard have just over one year left on their current deals, so Bayern is looking to conclude talks for a new deal sooner rather than later.

The talks with Hernandez are going in the right direction. The former Atletico Madrid center-back wants to stay in Munich, so a positive conclusion to contract talks is expected. However, the situation with Benjamin Pavard is slightly different.

Pavard’s agent has already confirmed that talks are scheduled with Bayern later this month, but there is significant interest from other big clubs in the defender across Europe. According to the Athletic, Manchester United has held exploratory talks for Benjamin Pavard. It remains to be seen whether Pavard’s agent has been directly contacted by Man United over a possible summer transfer.

Meanwhile, 90min has also reported Manchester United is not the only English club interested in Pavard. Manchester City and Real Madrid also have an interest in the French defender. All three clubs have asked to be informed about Die Roten’s contract talks with Pavard.

Benjamin Pavard previously admitted that he would be open to entertaining a new adventure in the summer. However, Ruckrunde has been very successful for Pavard in terms of getting regular playing time in the center-back position. Despite doing a fine job in the right-back position, Pavard has always preferred playing in the heart of the defense.

Julian Nagelsmann found a way to accommodate Pavard in central defense by switching to a back three. If Nagelsmann had stayed in Munich, Pavard’s renewal would have been a matter of time. However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel may change the dynamic related to contract talks with Bayern.

Pavard started in the right-back position for Bayern against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. If Tuchel sticks with a back four for the rest of the season, Pavard will largely play in the right-back position. The French defender’s final decision is likely to be influenced by the position he plays regularly for the rest of the season.

Manchester United, Manchester City, and Real Madrid will have to show Pavard a proper plan to convince him to leave Die Roten in the summer. The French defender will keenly listen to projects that give him a chance to play regularly in the center-back position. Bayern will be forced to sell Pavard if he refuses to sign a new deal. The next few weeks will provide more clarity on Pavard’s future in Munich.
