The arrival of a new coach at a top club often leads to an immediate influx of transfer speculation. Bayern Munich is expected to be linked with several players in the coming days after appointing Thomas Tuchel. The German coach took his first training session with the squad on Tuesday.

Tuchel had a successful tenure at Chelsea as he won the Champions League in 2020/21. The German coach got the best out of several players at Stamford Bridge, so it is not surprising to see several Chelsea players linked with a move to Bavaria. Mason Mount is one of the players at Chelsea that enjoyed success on the pitch under Tuchel.

According to The Times, Bayern is weighing up a move for Mason Mount in the summer transfer window. The record German champions want to take advantage of Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea. The English midfielder has reached a stalemate in talks with Chelsea for a new deal. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the next season.

Chelsea confirmed losses of over £100 million this week, which may force them to listen to offers for several players in the first team. The London-based club needs to balance the books after spending over half a billion on players in the last two transfer windows. Mount could be one of the players that can generate a good fee for Chelsea in the summer.

The Times also reported that Chelsea would look to get a fee close to £50 million for Mount in the summer if they fail to reach an agreement over a new deal. Bayern is unlikely to come anywhere close to that fee for a player that has only one year left on his contract.

From a sporting perspective, a move for Mount will not make sense for Die Roten. The England international thrives in the number ten role. He can operate as a number eight, but his attributes are visible higher up the pitch. Bayern currently has several players that excel in this position, so it is not quite clear where Mount will play if a move to Bavaria materializes.

Jamal Musiala and Thomas Muller excel in the number ten position. The former is the future of Bayern, while the latter still has a lot to offer at the top level. It is highly unlikely that Die Roten will end up signing Mount despite Tuchel rating him highly during his time at Chelsea. Mount may well end up staying in the Premier League as other big clubs, such as Manchester United and Liverpool, are showing interest in the English midfielder.
