A whirlwind week for Bayern Munich came to an end with the unveiling of Thomas Tuchel on Saturday. The newly appointed head coach spoke to the media at Allianz Arena after agreeing to a contract until 2025. Tuchel was appointed after the Bayern hierarchy decided to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann due to inconsistency in performances.

The former Chelsea manager will start working with players from Monday. Most of the international players will return to Sabner Strasser late in the week once the international break comes to an end. The appointment of a new manager will certainly benefit a few players, so let us look at three players that will be winners from the club’s decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel.

Manuel Neuer

It has been a difficult few months for Manuel Neuer. After a disappointing World Cup campaign with Germany, Neuer broke his leg in a freak accident during a ski trip in December. The German international was also frustrated with the club’s decision to part ways with goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.

Several reports in Germany suggested that the relationship between Neuer and Nagelsmann had deteriorated. The arrival of Thomas Tuchel will give Neuer a lifeline at Bayern. The veteran goalkeeper will look to get back on the pitch as soon as possible to start playing under Tuchel.

Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller has endured a dip in form this season. In the last few weeks, he seems to have lost the trust of Julian Nagelsmann. The German forward didn’t start against PSG in the first leg, while he was withdrawn early in the game against Borussia Monchengladbach when Dayot Upamencao was sent off. Jamal Musiala was thriving in the number ten role, so Muller was not the automatic first-choice option for Nagelsmann in this position.

Muller was in a similar position a few seasons ago under Niko Kovac. The Croatian manager left the club midway through the 2019/20 season, and Hansi Flick became the head coach. He got back to his best under Flick and played a crucial role in the team’s treble success by the end of the same season. Muller would hope to enjoy a similar impact with the arrival of Tuchel after falling down the pecking order under Nagelsmann.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has been a key player for Bayern Munich this season. The Cameroon international has been scoring goals at a healthy rate, and he improved the team’s chemistry in the final third. He would have been a big player for Nagelsmann if the German coach had seen out this season.

Choupo-Moting will need no time to get used to the new coach at Bayern. He has previously worked with Tuchel at Mainz and PSG. The 34-year-old striker knows Tuchel’s philosophy on the pitch, so he can be a crucial player for the former Chelsea head coach on and off the pitch.
