The last few weeks have been very positive for Bayern Munich. After a difficult start to 2023 with three consecutive draws in the Bundesliga, Bayern has gained momentum in results and performances over the last few weeks.

Die Roten currently has a lead of two points at the top of the Bundesliga table. The Bavarian club has also reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal and Champions League. The performance against PSG in the Champions League round of 16 sent a strong message to other clubs in the competition.

Julian Nagelsmann also has the majority of the squad available right now, which makes them a formidable outfit. After the wins against Augsburg and PSG, former Bayern midfielder Lothar Matthaus insisted that when all players fit, this is the biggest squad assembled by the club. On the back of Matthaus’ comments, let us dive into the strength of the current squad.

Goalkeepers

Bayern is spoilt for riches in the goalkeeping department. Manuel Neuer is ageing like a fine wine, delivering consistent performances at the top level. The German goalkeeper broke his leg due to a freak accident in December, which led to the arrival of Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Swiss international has been one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons.

Meanwhile, Sven Ulreich is a very dependable backup option in this position. Considering the performances of all three goalkeepers in the recent past, Bayern has one of the best goalkeeping units in the world. It will be further strengthened by the return of Alexander Nubel in the summer after his loan spell at Monaco.
