Bayern Munich: Lionel Scaloni heaps praise on Julian Nagelsmann
After winning his maiden Bundesliga title last season with Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann has endured a tricky campaign in the league this season. The German coach has struggled to get better consistency in results and performances from the team.
Despite poor results in September and January, Nagelsmann has still helped Die Roten to stay at the top of the league table. They are not the runaway winner this season right now, but Bayern is leading the title race. Moreover, the performances in cup competitions have been exceptional for Rekordmeister until now.
Whenever there has been intense pressure on Nagelsmann this season, he has found a way to extract good performances from the team. The German coach has been backed publicly by Die Roten chiefs as they consider him to be part of their long-term project.
Nagelsmann is one of the best young coaches in Europe. He has managed to achieve great results very early in his season. The German coach’s work is admired by some of the best managers in the game. While talking to Sky Sports in Paris on Monday, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni spoke brightly about Nagelsmann’s work at Bayern.
"“He’s a great coach. We’re following his work with big interest. We often look at his training sessions, we really like the way he trains. I hope that one day I’ll get to meet him personally.”"
Julian Nagelsmann has been tactically flexible this season. He started the campaign with a fluid front three to compensate for the departure of Robert Lewandowski. The new system was an instant hit as they delivered convincing displays and scored loads of goals.
After going through a winless run of four games in September, the German coach used Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as the focal point of the attack. The Cameroon international repaid Nagelsmann’s faith by bringing more cohesiveness in the final third. Along with improving the team’s play in the attack, Choupo-Moting has also been a prolific goalscorer for Die Roten this season.
Bayern started 2023 slowly as they suffered three consecutive draws in the Bundesliga. After the arrival of Joao Cancelo on the penultimate day of the transfer window, Julian Nagelsmann started using a back three to bring solidity to all three phases of the team.

The result against Borussia Monchengladbach was unfortunate since Die Roten was reduced to ten men early in the game. Die Roten also managed to beat PSG in Paris a few days ago to get a lead in the Champions League round of 16 clash. Nagelsmann’s ability to switch between several systems during the season to get the best possible results is a hallmark of a good coach. It is no surprise that Scaloni keenly follows his work in Munich.
