Bayern Munich has been consistently signing a new center-back every summer since 2019. Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule left the club in the same period, so Die Roten had to get replacements for them. Matthijs de Ligt arrived at Bayern from Juventus last summer to replace Sule.

The Bavarian club has enough depth in central defense, but things change quickly in football. The possible departure of Benjamin Pavard may force their hand in the market for a center-back. It does look like Die Roten has identified another French defender as a potential replacement for Pavard.

According to Telefoot (via GGFN), Bayern is interested in Monaco’s Axel Disasi. Apart from Die Roten, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain are also showing interest in the French defender. The 24-year-old may end up leaving in the summer after delivering consistent performances for Monaco.

Disasi was rewarded for good form at the club level with a place in the French squad for World Cup 2022. He was called upon by Didier Deschamps after Prisnel Kimpembe was injured just before the tournament. Disasi made his senior debut for the French team during the tournament.

The French defender has two years left on his contract at Monaco. The Ligue 1 club will be under no pressure to sell him in the summer. They may try to extend his contract to protect his transfer value. However, Disasi may try to look for a move away from Monaco if one of the top clubs converts their interest with bids.

Bayern currently has Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, De Ligt, and Benjamin Pavard as center-back options. Daley Blind will remain an option until the end of the season. The Dutch defender’s contract expires in the summer. If Blind and Pavard end up leaving Bavaria, Rekordmeister will need a fourth center-back.

Disasi has been playing regularly at Monaco, so he may look for a club that will continue to give him regular playing time. In such a scenario, Bayern will not be a favourable destination for the French international.

In an ideal scenario, Nagelsmann and Bayern would like to see Pavard sign a new deal. The French defender is now playing regularly in central defense. Moreover, extending his contract is financially a better outcome for the club than spending big on another defender. If Pavard fails to extend his contract, Rekordmeister will have to explore a move for Disasi in the summer transfer window.
