Bayern Munich has endured a difficult start to the second half of the season in the Bundesliga. The record champions have managed to win only two out of their six league games in 2023. Bayern will look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach when they host Union Berlin on Sunday.

It is a crucial game at the top of the points table, as both teams have 43 points after 21 league games. Die Roten is currently leading the points table due to a superior goal difference. Let us look at the possible starting XI Bayern can use against Union Berlin at Allianz Arena on Sunday.

Team News

Dayot Upamecano will miss the game against Union Berlin due to suspension. The French defender was dismissed in the eighth minute of the game against Borussia Monchengladbach. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had a slight neck problem, but he is expected to be fit for Sunday.

Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman will be part of the matchday squad after recovering from their respective injuries. Mane will be making his first appearance for Die Roten since the 6-1 win against Werder Bremen at the start of November. The game against Union Berlin comes too soon for Noussair Mazraoui. Manuel Neuer and Lucas Hernandez are the long-term absentees for Die Roten.

Predicted Starting XI

Yann Sommer had a difficult outing last weekend when he returned to Borussia Park for the first time since joining Bayern in January. The Swiss goalkeeper will look to bounce back strongly on Sunday by getting a clean sheet against Union Berlin.

Julian Nagelsmann will look to persist with a back three against Union Berlin as he has done in the past few games. Benjamin Pavard will play on the right side of the defense, while Daley Blind will occupy the left center-back role. Matthijs de Ligt will play in the middle of a back three.

Kingsley Coman has done a good job in the wing-back role for Nagelsmann, so the French forward is likely to play in this role. Meanwhile, Joao Cancelo will play in the right wing-back position. Joshua Kimmich is expected to play in the holding midfield position, while Jamal Musiala may start in the number eight position.
