Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer expects to be back by pre-season training
The last two months of 2022 were very brutal for Bayern Munich in terms of injuries to key players. Manuel Neuer was also among the group of players that suffered a serious injury during this period. He has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Neuer broke his leg during a freak accident on a ski trip in December. The German international had gone on a ski trip during the winter break. He underwent surgery immediately after the accident and started the recovery process. He was recently spotted with crutches at the team lunch in Munich on Sunday.
According to Bild, Manuel Neuer is confident about recovering completely before the start of pre-season training in the summer. The German goalkeeper’s recovery from this injury is on track, and he should be ready for the new season.
Considering the nature of the injury, Bayern will give Manuel Neuer all the time needed to complete the recovery. They have ample depth in the goalkeeping department to cope with his absence and give him the needed time to make a strong return.
The Bavarian club signed Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer to replace Neuer in the squad for the rest of the season. The Swiss goalkeeper arrived at the club on a two and half year deal. He is expected to compete with Neuer for a place in the team next season. For now, it is good to see Neuer is on track to make a strong return next season.
Bayern will have to make a decision on the immediate future of Alexander Nubel in the summer when Neuer recovers from injury. The former Schalke goalkeeper was not keen on returning to Bavaria in January. He will look for a loan move or permanent transfer if Die Roten will not guarantee him adequate playing time.

There is one positive development for Bayern on the injury front. Sadio Mane started training with the ball for the first time since November. Mane missed the World Cup due to a serious injury to his tibia. The 30-year-old is facing a race against time to be fit for the game against PSG on February 14, but he is inching towards making a return.
