The second half of the season will be pivotal for Bayern Munich when it comes to long-term squad building. The Bavarian club will outline plans for the summer transfer window as they are expected to go big for a number nine. Along with bringing new faces, Die Roten also needs to secure the future of key players in the squad.

Hasan Salihamidzic is expected to hold talks with representatives of several first-team players in Ruckrunde. He has started the year by holding contract talks with the representatives of veteran striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Salihamidzic held preliminary talks with the agent and father of Choupo-Moting on Wednesday. The 33-year-old forward has six months left on his current deal. Die Roten wants to keep him beyond the current season.

Sky Sports also reiterate that talks between Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bayern are likely to be complex. The former PSG striker is happy to stay in Munich, but he wants a pay rise, and he wants to play regularly instead of being a backup to another striker. Manchester United is interested in signing Choupo-Moting during the winter transfer window, but Bayern has no plans to sell him in January.

Choupo-Moting has been in fine form for Bayern this season. After starting on the bench in an initial couple of months of the season, Julian Nagelsmann decided to use Choupo-Moting as the focal point of the attack. The 33-year-old forward repaid the German coach’s faith by delivering stellar performances during October.

The former PSG forward has scored 11 goals in 15 appearances for Bayern across all competitions. Choupo-Moting’s introduction to the starting XI also helped other Bayern forwards during their unbeaten run in October. He went into the World Cup on the back of scoring seven goals in the last seven games.

Bayern has generally offered one-year extensions to players above 30. It remains to be seen if Choupo-Moting will be content with a shorter deal. With the possible arrival of a new striker, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting may end up becoming a second fiddle in the number nine role at Die Roten.

Apart from Choupo-Moting, Bayern is also expected to hold talks with Lucas Hernandez over a new deal in the coming days. The French defender is set to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, but Die Roten wants to secure his future since he has 18 months left on the current deal.
