Bayern Munich: Dayot Upamecano set to travel for the winter camp
The first team at Bayern Munich will begin training next week for the first time since mid-November. Few players trained in early December, while others played in the World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann will be holding training at Sabner Strasse next week before flying out with the team to Doha for a winter camp.d
The defending German champions will also have Dayot Upamecano in the squad for the winter camp. According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Upamecano has decided against taking a longer vacation. He will resume training with his teammates next week to be part of the winter camp.
Bild also reported that Nagelsmann had granted a longer vacation to Upamecano since he played most minutes from the Bayern squad in the World Cup. However, Upamecano is eager to build momentum for Ruckrunde by participating in the winter camp.
Dayot Upamecano was one of the best defenders in the World Cup 2022. Apart from the semi-final game against Croatia and the group-stage game against Tunisia, Upamecano started every game for France in the World Cup. He missed the game against Croatia due to illness, while Didier Deschamps rested him against Tunisia since France had booked a place in the round of 16.
Upamecano excelled on and off the ball for France. He formed a very solid center-back partnership with Raphael Varane, which provided an ideal platform for midfielders and forwards to shine higher up the pitch. It was unfortunate for Upamecano that he didn’t end up lifting the trophy as France was defeated by Argentina in the final.
Bayern and Nagelsmann will be pleased with the commitment shown by Upamecano to get into the rhythm before the start of the season. The French defender will have a big role to play in Ruckrunde as Die Roten remains in contention for all three trophies (Bundesliga title, Champions League, and DFB Pokal).
Dayot Upamecano will start most games for Bayern in Ruckrunde since Lucas Hernandez has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The former RB Leipzig defender will play most games with Matthijs de Ligt in the heart of the defense. Both players had formed a solid partnership over a brief period before players departed for the World Cup in November.
