The last 18 months have seen Bayern Munich secure the future of the German spine of their squad. They extended the contracts of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka last season, while Serge Gnabry signed a new deal in the summer. All three players will be spending their best years in Bavaria.
Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane are the next German players in line to get new deals at Bayern. Along with securing the future of German players in the squad, Die Roten will also keep signing the best German talent in the coming years.
Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz fits this criterion and remains a long-standing target for Die Roten. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern has not been fazed by the contract renewal of Florian Wirtz at Leverkusen. The Bavarian club is frustrated by Wirtz’s decision to renew without a release clause, but they will keenly follow his situation.
Wirtz’s new deal at Leverkusen will expire in 2027. The extension was reportedly signed in the summer, which allows Leverkusen to command a significant fee in the coming windows. He has been previously linked with several clubs in Europe after enjoying a good run of form with Leverkusen.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will be returning to action from a long absence at the start of Ruckrunde. He had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March, which kept him out for more than nine months. Wirtz has a lot of time on his side to get back to his best after a long layoff from injury.
Wirtz will not feature on the immediate list of transfer targets for Bayern. They will be keenly following his return from a serious injury, but any serious approach is unlikely to take place at least in the next two years. The youngster could become a serious option in 2025, when two years are left on his contract.
Bayern may try to bring in Wirtz when Thomas Muller decides to bring curtains on his illustrious career in Bavaria. Musiala and Wirtz compete for the same position on the pitch, so Die Roten will have to come up with a solution to accommodate both if a move for Wirtz materializes in the future.

The immediate concern for Bayern is finding a new goalkeeper for Ruckrunde after Manuel Neuer was ruled out for the rest of the season. Alexander Nubel is not ready to end his loan spell with Monaco in January, so Die Roten may have to look for other options.
