The World Cup 2022 was a painful one for most of the players in the current first-team squad at Bayern Munich. After having few winners in the squad from the last World Cup win in 2018, there is no winner in the squad from the current edition of the World Cup.

The German contingent from Bayern’s squad collective endured the most underwhelming World Cup 2022. Germany was knocked out from the World Cup stage for the second consecutive tournament. Julian Nagelsmann will have to restore their confidence after a disappointing outing in Qatar.

Noussair Mazraoui had a memorable World Cup as Morocco reached the semi-finals. Mathijs de Ligt was largely on the bench for the Netherlands, while Josip Stanisic was part of the Croatian team that finished third in the tournament.

The French players from Bayern narrowly missed out on winning the tournament as Argentina defeated them in the finals. Despite losing the final, it was a solid title defense by France. However, two Bayern players will have bitter memory from the tournament. The resumption of the Bundesliga will give both players the opportunity to redeem themselves.

Pavard has point to prove after controversial World Cup

Benjamin Pavard has been one of the dependable players for the French team in the past four years. He played the entire World Cup 2018 as a right-back under Didier Deschamps. Going into the World Cup in Qatar, Pavard was the first-choice right-back. The tournament started on a good note for France with a 4-1 win against Australia, but things went downhill for Pavard as the tournament progressed.

Pavard didn’t play again in the tournament as Deschamps utilized Jules Kounde in the right-back position. The French camp insisted that dropping Pavard was a tactical decision. Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Pavard has been creating an imbalance in the squad.

The former Stuttgart defender will be severely disappointed with the speculation in the media about his role in the French squad. He will be looking to make up for a poor World Cup with strong performances for Bayern during Ruckrunde. With a severe injury to Lucas Hernandez, Pavard is also likely to get opportunities in his favoured position- central defense.

Coman will be looking to bounce back strongly after penalty disappointment

Kingsley Coman was not able to participate in the last World Cup due to an injury. He worked hard over the last four years and eventually made it to the French squad for the tournament in Qatar. He was used as an impact sub for most of the tournament. Coman always made a positive impact whenever he came on the pitch.

However, the tournament ended on a sour note for Coman as he missed the penalty during the shootouts against Argentina. The penalty miss will definitely keep playing on Coman’s mind for some time. He has always bounced back strongly from setbacks throughout his time at Bayern. The French winger will be looking to get over this big sporting setback and deliver the goods for Die Roten in Ruckrunde.
