The last few years have been productive for Bayern Munich when it comes to nurturing young talent in the first team. Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies have been successfully integrated into the first team by the club. Both players are now key players for Julian Nagelsmann.

However, all young players may not follow the same route as Musiala and Davies. There is fierce competition in a few areas of the first team, so young players may find it difficult to get opportunities to show their talent. In such a scenario, a loan move to get vital experience at the senior level can facilitate the development of young players.

Paul Wanner could follow the second route to establish himself in the first team at Bayern. According to AZ’s Maximilian Koch, Wanner could go out on loan in the summer. The youngster is expected to play in the attacking midfield role for Die Roten in the future, so he is likely to join a club where he will consistently play in this position.

Wanner is considered the next big talent to come through Bayern’s academy. He made his debut for the senior team in early 2022 at the age of 16. The youngster also squashed speculation around his future by signing a long-term contract after making his debut for the senior team.

The teenager has been training with the first team since the start of 2022. Few reports in Germany suggested that Wanner is currently considered an emergency left-back in the squad. However, his long-term future lies in the attacking midfield role at Bayern.

Die Roten made the right decision by keeping Paul Wanner in the first-team squad for this season. He made three appearances across all competitions during Hinrunde. The youngster will gain vital experience during the ongoing campaign by regularly training with the first team. He is likely to get a few more opportunities in the second half of the season. Moreover, he was too young to go out on loan last summer.

Staying at Bayern with the first team for a year will pay dividends when he gets to play regularly at the senior level from next season. The record Bundesliga Champions need to find a club that can provide Paul Wanner regular playing time in the attacking midfield role. The next step in his development is to play regularly at the senior level. He will be in a good position to play an adequate role in the squad when he returns from the loan spell.

Wanner’s future in international football is also subject to tug of war between Austria and Germany. Austria had invited him to train with the senior team in November. Germany is also likely to take necessary steps to convince him to represent them at the international level. The next few months are crucial for Wanner’s immediate future at the club level and long-term future on the international stage.
