The next few weeks will see Bayern Munich linked with several players due to the start of the winter transfer window. However, Bayern is expecting a quiet winter transfer window. The Bavarian club is focusing on doing the majority of business in the summer.

Strengthening the attack with a number nine seems to be the priority for Bayern in the summer. The Bavarian club will also strengthen the midfield by getting Konrad Laimer on a free transfer. With both midfield and attack likely to be improved in the summer, it remains to be seen if there will be an investment in the defense.

Die Roten has signed a center-back in each of their last four summer windows. It will be quite a surprise if they decide to sign another one in 2023, but the departure of Benjamin Pavard and the ACL injury to Lucas Hernandez may force the club’s hand. The latest report from France does suggest that Bayern is interested in one of the most exciting young defensive talent in Europe.

According to Foot Mercato, Bayern has a strong interest in RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian defender was subject to interest from Chelsea last summer, but he ended up signing a new deal at Leipzig in September. Despite the contract renewal, the interest in Gvardiol is going to increase due to his quality performances at Leipzig. He is also thriving for Croatia at the World Cup as they qualified for the semi-final by beating Brazil on Friday.

Apart from Bayern, Footmercato insists that Manchester United and Manchester City have already made big offers for Gvardiol. Chelsea also holds a strong interest in the Croatian defender. If he continues to excel during the next six months, more big clubs will join the race for his signature.

Gvardiol will add more quality in central defense at Bayern, but he might be well out of Die Roten’s budget for next summer. The Croatian defender could end up fetching a nine-figure fee, so this deal is beyond Die Roten’s spending limit in 2023. Unless they end up signing a striker on a free transfer, they cannot blow the entire budget on Gvardiol.

Moreover, Gvardiol will prefer getting regular playing time at his next club. The Croatian defender will struggle to get this box ticked at Bayern since there are three quality center-backs in the squad. This possible summer deal will not make sense for Bayern and the 20-year-old defender.

For now, Bayern is looking to sort out the goalkeeping department after Manuel Neuer broke his leg this week. The German shot-stopper will not play again this season. Die Roten is reportedly thinking about bringing Alexander Nubel from Monaco. Nubel has been on loan at the French club for the past 18 months.
