The next summer transfer window could see one significant departure at Bayern Munich. Benjamin Pavard may bring an end to his time in Bavaria after four seasons since he is open to a new adventure. The French international is ready to listen to projects that will allow him to play frequently in the center-back position.

Bayern wants to open contract talks with Benjamin Pavard, but he is reportedly unsure about signing an extension. The record Bundesliga champions are expected to make one last attempt to extend Pavard’s contract after the World Cup 2022.

According to Sky Sports in Germany (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern will grant Pavard’s wish to leave in the summer if an interested club meets their evaluation. Moreover, Die Roten is not planning to sign a right-back to replace Pavard. The report from Sky insists that Bayern will rely on the current options to fill in for Pavard from next season.

Bayern signed Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax last summer to add more quality in the right-back position. After a slow start to life in Bavaria, Mazraoui was starting regularly in the final few weeks before the World Cup break. The Moroccan defender provides a lot of dynamism while going forward, so it will not be surprising to see him become the first-choice right-back at Bayern by the end of the season.

Apart from Mazraoui, Josip Stanisic can also play in the right-back position. The Croatian defender has been the utility man in the defense for Julian Nagelsmann this season. He can play in either full-back position and also fulfill the duties of a center-back. Stanisic’s growing prominence in the senior team was recently rewarded by the club with a contract renewal.

Joshua Kimmich can also play in the right-back position if Bayern needs him. The German midfielder has previously excelled in the right-back role for Die Roten. He will regularly play in the midfield, but if the situation demands, then Kimmich can also play on the right side of the defense.

Konrad Laimer is expected to be a new Bayern player next summer. The Austrian midfielder reportedly has a verbal agreement with Die Roten to join on a free transfer. Laimer can also become an emergency option in the right-back position if he joins the club.

Die Roten will still try to keep Pavard since he is entering the prime years of his career. He has been a solid player for the German club in the last four years, so extending his contract makes a lot of sense. If he does end up leaving, Bayern has many options in the squad that can replace him. The funds from Pavard’s sale could be moved towards signing a new number nine next summer.
