The World Cup break will allow clubs to assess their transfer plans for the winter and summer windows. Bayern Munich is not expected to be busy in January, but they are expected to lay down the groundwork for the summer deals during the ongoing break.
The record Bundesliga champions are looking to strengthen the attack during the summer transfer window. They are reportedly working on a possible deal for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. However, the deal to bring the English forward to Allianz Arena is not straightforward.
There is an equal chance of Kane staying at Spurs beyond this season. In such a scenario, Die Roten should be ready with backup options to strengthen the attack. The Bavarian club has been monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram. The latest update from French media suggests that Bayern’s interest in Thuram is getting concrete.
According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), Bayern has contacted Thuram’s representatives to register their interest. Along with Die Roten, Aston Villa and Inter Milan are also showing interest in Thuram. The French striker will become a free agent in the summer since his contract with Gladbach expires at the end of the current campaign.
Marcus Thuram has primarily operated as a number nine for Gladbach. After a disappointing last season, Thuram has been a prolific goalscorer for Gladbach this season. He has scored 13 goals for Gladbach across all competitions during Hinrunde. Thuram’s prolific goalscoring run in the Bundesliga helped him to get a call-up for the French national team in the World Cup 2022.
Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to get a fee for Thuram in January, but the majority of interested clubs will wait for the next six months to sign him on a free transfer. Die Roten will also eye a free transfer instead of spending money in the winter transfer window.
The Bavarian club may have to wait for some time before pulling the trigger for Thuram. They are expected to make a great effort for Kane before moving on to other targets. Kane has halted contract talks with Spurs until the end of the World Cup, so Die Roten will hope to know the English striker’s stance early in the second half of the season. If they don’t have a chance to sign Kane, then a deal for Thuram could be concluded swiftly.

Meanwhile, Bayern is close to signing Konrad Laimer on a free transfer from RB Leipzig. The Austrian midfielder has reportedly agreed to join the club in the summer, but a statement could be announced in January. Laimer has reportedly chosen Bayern over English clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool.
