Bayern Munich: Marcel Sabitzer may have to make way for Konrad Laimer
The winter transfer window will not see new players arriving at Bayern Munich. However, the Bavarian club is working on deals that will be concluded in the summer. They have finally achieved a breakthrough in their pursuit of Konrad Laimer this week.
RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has a verbal agreement with Die Roten for a summer move. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with Bayern in January since he will be a free agent in the summer. The Austrian midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Bavaria in the summer.
Laimer is expected to add more quality to Die Roten’s midfield department. The Austria international can play multiple positions, giving a lot of tactical flexibility to Julian Nagelsmann. Moreover, Laimer will take very little time to tactically settle in Bavaria since he has worked with Nagelsmann at Leipzig for two years.
The arrival of Laimer will certainly raise eyebrows about the future of some squad players. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Marcel Sabitzer faces an uncertain future at Die Roten. The former Leipzig midfielder could end up making way for Laimer in the current squad.
Meanwhile, Bayern has no plans to part ways with Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch midfielder has been frustrated with a lack of consistent playing time since arriving in Bavaria from Ajax during the last transfer window. He is considered part of Die Roten’s long-term vision, so a summer transfer is out of question for the Dutch international.
Sabitzer had a very difficult debut season at Bayern last year, but he bounced back well this season. The Austrian international has already played over 1000 minutes this season. He had managed to get similar playing time in the entire 2021/22 campaign. Sabitzer has been tactically astute for Die Roten this season, which has made sure that Nagelsmann gives him game time on a consistent basis.
However, the arrival of Laimer will reduce the chances for Marcel Sabitzer. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are first-choice midfielders for Bayern, while Laimer and Gravenberch will provide cover for them. Sabitzer may have to settle for being fifth choice midfielder or look for a new club in the summer.

Apart from Laimer, Bayern is also working on adding more quality to the attack. They are expected to sign a striker in the summer, with Harry Kane as the top target for the Bavarian club. The coming months will give a clear idea about the feasibility of Kane’s transfer to Rekordmeister.
