In the past few months, the reports in Germany have consistently insisted that Bayern Munich will strengthen the attack in the next summer transfer window. Die Roten is pleased with the output of the current attacking players, but there is certainly room for a number nine in the squad.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has emerged as the top transfer target for Bayern. The English forward has currently put contract talks on hold with Spurs after entering the final 18 months of his current deal. Die Roten is expected to explore a deal for him if he doesn’t renew with Spurs before the end of the season.
Apart from Kane, Rekordmeister has also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram. The French international will become a free agent in the summer, so a deal to sign him is relatively easy compared to the one for Kane. However, Die Roten will reportedly face competition from Italy for the young forward.
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan has touched base with Thuram’s representatives to accelerate the process of signing him in the winter transfer window. Inter’s desire to sign Thuram in January will benefit Gladbach since they will be able to get a nominal fee for him.
If Bayern is serious about signing Thuram, they will have to reach a pre-contract agreement in January. The French forward can be announced as a Bayern player in January and then complete the transfer in the summer. However, signing Thuram heavily depends on Die Roten’s pursuit of Kane.
The French forward can attract interest from more top clubs in January if he impresses for France at the World Cup. He was rewarded with a late call-up for the French squad after Christopher Nkunku was ruled out due to a training ground injury.
After a difficult 2021/22 campaign, Thuram has bounced back brilliantly for Gladbach this season. He has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions. His call-up to the French squad was richly deserved since he has been one of the best forwards in the Bundesliga this season. Thuram will be a solid signing for Bayern since he is entering the peak years of his career and completely settled in the Bundesliga. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)

Bayern would ideally prefer Thuram to delay a decision over his next club until the summer. The record German Champions will need time to make a final decision over their next attacking signing. If Kane decides to continue at Spurs, Die Roten can pull the trigger for Thuram at the start of the summer.
