The 2022/23 campaign is a strange one for all clubs in Europe as players had to play in the World Cup during winter. Bayern Munich currently has 16 players playing in Qatar. The presence of the World Cup in the middle of the season is going to impact the second half of the campaign at the club level.

Die Roten has already suffered a big setback at World Cup as Lucas Hernandez ruptured his ACL while playing for France against Australia. He is unlikely to play again for Rekordmeister this season. Noussair Mazraoui also suffered a hip injury during Morocco’s game against Croatia, but he is reportedly confident about playing again in the World Cup.

Along with possible injuries, several Bayern players will accumulate fatigue if their teams go deep in the competition. Julian Nagelsmann will have to be flexible with his lineups in Ruckrunde to manage the workload of players.

Several squad players, including Mathys Tel, have a big role to play in the second half of the season, as Nagelsmann will frequently rotate his team. The French forward was expected to play more in the second half of the season. However, the injury to Mane and Die Roten’s decision to avoid winter transfers will see Tel more regularly than he expected.

The French forward is gearing up for Ruckrunde in the best possible way. He has been a prolific goalscorer for France’s U-19 team in the last couple of weeks. Mathys Tel has scored five goals across three games against Kazakhstan, Iceland, and Scotland in the qualifying campaign for Euros. The French forward has shown great calmness in front of the goal, which bodes well for Die Roten.

Tel has largely been coming off the bench for Die Roten across different competitions. However, the cameos from the French forward have been promising. Along with showing composure in front of the goal, Tel has all the tools to become a versatile forward. He can be a threat on the flank and also operate as a number nine. He has scored three goals in 285 minutes across all competitions. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

Nagelsmann has been slowly integrating him into the first team. Bayern paying a significant fee for Mathys Tel in the summer did raise eyebrows, but he has shown glimpses of his incredible potential in Hinrunde. The French forward will be raring to go in the second half of the season and play a crucial role in Bayern’s season. Considering the giant steps he has taken at Bayern in very less time, Tel can surely end up scoring ten or more goals in his debut season at the club.
