Bayern Munich players endure difficult results on MD 3 and 4 of World Cup
The World Cup 2022 has started on a poor note for most Bayern Munich players. After positive results for French players and Matthijs de Ligt this week, most of the other Die Roten players have started the tournament on a poor note.
Germany was stunned by Japan in the first group game on Wednesday. Hansi Flick’s team took the lead in the first half after a strong start to the game. The German team created several chances but couldn’t increase their lead. The missed opportunities eventually came back to haunt Germany as Japan scored two quick goals late in the game and took all three points.
The defeat against Japan has made sure that Germany has to defeat Spain this weekend. It is a do-or-die situation for Germany due to their poor efficiency at both ends of the pitch against Japan. In terms of the participation of Bayern players in the starting XI, Joshua Kimmich started in the central midfield. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, and Jamal Musiala played higher up the pitch. Manuel Neuer played in the goal against Japan. Leon Goretzka came on for Ilkay Gundogan midway through the second half.
Apart from Musiala, no other Bayern player stood out for Germany on Wednesday. The youngster created good opportunities for himself and his teammates, but those chances were not converted. If Germany fails to win against Spain, then they may already have one foot out of the tournament.
Along with Bayern’s German contingent, Alphonso Davies also had a poor outing for Canada against Belgium on Wednesday. The young left-back had the chance to put his team ahead but his penalty was saved by Thibaut Courtois. He recovered well from the early setback, but Belgium managed to grind out a 1-0 win against Canada.
Noussair Mazraoui also had an unforgettable first group game in the World Cup 2022. Morocco was involved in a goalless draw against Croatia. However, Mazraoui was stretchered off due to injury. It remains to be seen if he will miss the rest of the tournament. Josip Stanisic was an unused substitute for Croatia against Morocco.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also faced disappointment earlier today. The 33-year-old forward has been in scintillating form for Bayern this season, but he couldn’t guide Cameroon to victory against Switzerland. Cameroon suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Swiss.
The second round of group games is crucial for various Bayern players if they want to go deep into the competition. Hopefully, Die Roten players perform well, and most importantly, avoid injuries.
