The next summer window will be intriguing for Bayern Munich when it comes to strengthening the defense. The central defense needs no further additions for now, as they have three top-quality options in Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, and Matthijs de Ligt. The area of concern for Rekordmeister could be full-back positions next summer.

Benjamin Pavard has recently expressed desire to find a new project where he can consistently play in central defense. The French international has largely played in the right-back position for Bayern since arriving at the club in 2019.

Die Roten will have to look for a right-back option to replace Pavard if he seals a transfer away from the club. The latest report from SportBild in Germany (via iMiaSanMia) suggested that Bayern may also look to sign a left-back to improve depth in this position.

SportBild does insist that Bayern is not in the mix to sign Borna Sosa from Stuttgart. The Croatian defender will leave Stuttgart sooner rather than later. He has been previously linked with a move to Bavaria, but Die Roten is currently looking for a left-back that is defensively solid.

It is surprising to see Bayern even considering a move for left-back. They already have a top talent in Alphonso Davies. The Canadian defender can be Bayern’s left-back for the next ten years. Hernandez can also do a good job in the left-back position, while Josip Stanisic has already shown this season that he can provide cover in this role.

Deal for Pavard’s replacement can be completed from the funds raised by his departure. The Bavarian club’s major signing next summer is likely to be in the number nine position, so it is highly unlikely that they invest heavily in a left-back. At best, they may explore a free transfer as they did for Omar Richards in 2021.

The record Bundesliga champions are expected to improve the depth in the midfield department by signing Konrad Laimer. The Austrian midfielder has reportedly rejected interest from Chelsea since he wants to finally complete a move to Bavaria.

The next summer transfer window will not see wholesale changes in the squad as it did this year. The club hierarchy will also focus on securing the future of Lucas Hernandez and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting before the end of the season. Die Roten will also try to initiate contract talks with Pavard, but he is unlikely to sign a new deal.
