Benjamin Pavard has been very candid about his future at Bayern Munich in the past couple of weeks. The French defender has insisted that he is open to listening to clubs that will play him regularly in the central defense.

Pavard’s future in Bavaria has been subject to debate since summer, but recent comments definitely confirm that he is looking to leave the club sooner rather than later. However, the former Stuttgart defender will not be leaving Die Roten in the winter transfer window.

According to Sport1, Bayern has no plans to part ways with Pavard in January. The club hierarchy will hold talks with Benjamin Pavard after the World Cup. Initially, Die Roten wanted to extend his contract, but a renewal is looking unlikely right now.

Bayern and Julian Nagelsmann will need the entire squad for the second half of the season, so it makes no sense to sell Pavard in the winter transfer window. Both parties will look for a resolution when the summer transfer window opens in June. With one year left on Pavard’s current deal, Die Roten will look to cash in the summer.

Benjamin Pavard has been a consistent player for Bayern since arriving from VfB Stuttgart in 2019. The French international excelled in the right-back position for Die Roten. However, Pavard has consistently insisted that he wants to play as a central defender in the long run.

The French defender was likely to get more opportunities in central defense this season after the departure of Niklas Sule in the summer. However, the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus squashed Pavard’s chances of playing in his preferred position. He was heavily linked with several top clubs in the summer, but Julian Nagelsmann convinced him to stay.

Pavard has done fairly well this season in the right-back position. In the past few weeks, he also got few opportunities to play in central defense due to injuries for Lucas Hernandez and de Ligt. However, he will have to play in the right-back position whenever two central defenders are fit.

The ball is in Pavard’s court regarding his future at Bayern. The record Bundesliga champions will be more than happy to extend his contract, but if he decides to look for a new adventure, they will sanction his transfer. It does look like Pavard will be playing in different colours from next season. Good performances at World Cup will increase more options for Pavard in the summer.
