On Matchday 15, Bayern Munich, who recently moved top of the points table, were hosted by league strugglers Schalke 04. After winning five consecutive league games, Bayern was back to their best. On the other hand, Schalke managed only one win since mid-September. Die Roten compounded Schalke’s misery by delivering an efficient performance on Saturday to take all three points.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

The biggest surprise throughout this season is how well Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has been able to step up when he is needed most. In the game against Schalke, Choupo-Moting’s offensive presence was superb. At the end of the first half, Choupo-Moting had a headed effort saved by Schalke’s shot-stopper. Hammering the ball toward the left post, the Schalke keeper provided a world-class save to stop the ball from going back of the net.

However, quickly from second-half kick-off, Choupo-Moting got his well-deserved goal in the 51st minute. A brilliant finish that saw the ball guided perfectly past the keeper. Choupo-Moting has now scored six goals in the last six Bundesliga games.

Serge Gnabry

Nobody played better in the final third for Bayern against Schalke than Serge Gnabry. Whether it was starting attacking moves or getting the final shot, Gnabry did it all. His performance started early with a powerful header in the 26th minute that drew a goal-line block from the Schalke defender. A few minutes later, Gnabry bagged Bayern’s first goal of the day following one of the best passages of play Bayern has had all season.

In the second half, Gnabry got himself into a position that looked to be a sure-fire second goal but was unfortunately cut out by a defender with a last-ditch effort– just one example of how good Gnabry’s positioning was in this match. It seemed as though every ball played forward would fall right to him.

Jamal Musiala

Jamal Musiala impresses yet again, except this time it was on his landmark 100th appearance for Bayern. On both the offensive and defensive phases of play, Musiala was always in the right place at the right time. It all started with the impressive assist that set up Bayern’s first goal. After receiving the ball in the box, Musiala played a lovely backheel to flick the ball onto Gnabry.

In the second half, Musiala grabbed his second assist of the game as he played an inch-perfect through-ball to Choupo-Moting’s goal. In the 40th minute, Musiala showed his strength and grit with a defensive contribution that ended a very solid Schalke counterattack. He also had great attempts blocked or saved throughout the game. The youngster scored a brilliant goal in the second half, but unfortunately, he strayed offside in the buildup of the move.. Overall, another impressive 10/10 performance for Musiala that rightfully earns his this Man of the Match.
