Bayern Munich continues to take steps in the positive direction under Julian Nagelsmann since the last international break. They made it three Bundesliga wins in a row on Saturday with an emphatic 6-2 victory against Mainz. Courtesy of the victory against Mainz, Bayern moved to the top of the points table since Union Berlin plays against Monchengladbach on Sunday.
The Bavarian club dominated Mainz for the majority of the game. They had six different goalscorers, which further highlights the good distribution of goals in the squad this season. The entire team excelled against Mainz, but the following three players stood out at Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting can do no wrong for Bayern at the moment. The Cameroon international has been in sensational form lately while operating as the focal point of the attack. He has contributed to eight goals and assists in the past five games for Die Roten. The good form for Choupo-Moting continued on Saturday.
The first half saw Choupo-Moting showing great awareness around the box. He had a very crisp one-two exchange with Jamal Musiala before the youngster hammered past the goalkeeper. The veteran forward was a constant threat in the final third for Die Roten. He worked tirelessly to win the ball higher up the pitch. His perseverance was rewarded with a well-taken goal late in the game. Choupo-Moting is excelling after getting more responsibility in the final third. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
Sadio Mane
Courtesy of Choupo-Moting’s excellent form, Sadio Mane is able to play on the left flank. The Senegalese forward excels in this role since he has played on the left side of the attack for the majority of his career. He managed to create all sorts of problems for Mainz on the left flank on Saturday with his pace and trickery.
Mane was beating the full-back consistently on the left flank, which helped in moving Mainz’s central defenders out of position. He cleverly won the penalty but couldn’t convert it in a straightforward manner. However, Mane showed great awareness to pounce on the rebound and triple Bayern’s lead. Mane’s creative game is on display when he plays on the left flank. He managed to deliver a pinpoint cross in the second half to set up the goal for Leon Goretzka. Along with delivering good performances on the left flank, Mane is getting goals and assists at a consistent rate for Die Roten.

Jamal Musiala
Jamal Musiala has been the most potent and productive forward for Bayern Munich this season. The youngster continued his terrific form against Mainz. He started in the number ten role on Saturday since Thomas Muller was missing the game due to a hip injury. Musiala didn’t disappoint the Bavarian faithful while playing in his best position.
The youngster was taking up good positions between the lines and playing accurate passes on the turn. His astute linkup play and quick feet consistently created problems for the visitors. Musiala also bagged himself a very good goal as he hammered the ball from a difficult angle around the edge of the box after a neat bit of linkup play with Choupo-Moting. Musiala was not spectacular, but his base-level performances also ended up having a big impact on the result.
