Bayern Munich defender wanted by Atletico Madrid
There were significant changes in the first team at Bayern Munich during the last summer transfer window. The Bavarian club parted ways with several players and signed five players to bolster the squad. Die Roten had to make difficult decisions to refresh and improve the squad.
There is unlikely to be a significant turnover of players for Die Roten next summer. However, they may receive firm bids for their key players. Lucas Hernandez is one of the key players in the squad that could be subject to interest from his former club Atletico Madrid.
According to El Chiringuito TV in Spain, Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone wants to bring Lucas Hernandez back to La Liga in the summer. The Argentine coach is eager to bolster the defense by signing the 26-year-old French center-back.
Hernandez thrived at Atletico Madrid for a few seasons before getting a big move to Bayern Munich in 2019. The Spanish club received a fee close to €80 million for the French international. After a difficult debut season, Hernandez has established himself as one of the key players at Bayern.
It will take an extraordinary turn of events for Lucas Hernandez to move back to Spain in the next summer transfer window. Bayern has no plans to part ways with him. He is a crucial part of Julian Nagelsmann’s project in Bavaria, and Atletico Madrid may struggle to meet Die Roten’s evaluation of Hernandez.
Bayern is currently moving in the right direction for extending the contract of Lucas Hernadez. The French defender has just over 18 months left on his current deal. With Hernandez settled in Munich, a positive conclusion to contract talks is expected. Die Roten will prefer getting the new deal sorted for the French defender before the end of the season.
Die Roten has been spending heavily on central defense over the last four years. They finally have a settled group of central defenders, so it doesn’t make sense to part ways with Hernandez. The French international is already one of the finest defenders in the game. Hernandez is expected to get better as he enters the peak years of his career.

The only possible departure in Bayern’s defensive unit is likely to be Benjamin Pavard. The French defender has done a fine job in the right-back position over the last three seasons, but he prefers playing in central defense. Die Roten wants to extend Pavard’s contract, but he is reportedly unsure about signing an extension. The Bavarian club may have to cash in next summer if he refuses to sign a new deal. Atletico Madrid has a better chance of signing Pavard than Hernandez. The Spanish club was one of the interested clubs in Pavard during last summer’s transfer window.
