The games are coming thick and fast for Bayern Munich as we near the start of the World Cup in November. DFB Pokal will resume in mid-week with the second round of fixtures. Bayern Munich will be travelling to Augsburg for the second round of the German cup. Die Roten will be looking to avenge the league defeat against Augsburg that they suffered at the same venue in September.

Bayern is currently in a good space after enjoying an improvement in performances since the end of the last international break. They are currently on an unbeaten run of five games across all competitions, which includes four wins and one draw. Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping to extend this run to six games on Wednesday with a win in the second round of the DFB Pokal.

Team News

Manuel Neuer is set to miss the game against Augsburg as he continues to recover from a shoulder problem. Thomas Muller will be travelling with the squad on Wednesday, but he is set to start on the bench. Noussair Mazraoui is also carrying a minor knock, but it will not keep him out of the DFB Pokal clash against Augsburg.

Die Roten suffered a setback in the win against Freiburg as Leroy Sane is ruled out for three weeks due to a muscle injury. The German winger has been in fine form for Die Roten, so this injury setback is even more frustrating for Die Roten and Nagelsmann. Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman will be in the matchday squad on Wednesday after missing the game against Freiburg due to suspension.

Predicted Starting XI

Sven Ulreich collected his first clean sheet of the season against Freiburg on Sunday. The German goalkeeper will be looking to make it two clean sheets in a row on Wednesday as he will start in the absence of Manuel Neuer.

Since Noussair Mazraoui is unlikely to start on Wednesday, there will be no big changes in the back four. Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano will form the center-back partnership against Augsburg. Benjamin Pavard and Alphonso Davies will continue to play in the full-back positions.

Julian Nagelsmann may make one change in the center of the park against Augsburg. Leon Goretzka has been in fine form, but he is due a breather, so he will start on the bench. Joshua Kimmich will play in the holding midfield role, while Marcel Sabitzer will operate as a number eight.

The front four picks itself due to the injury to Leroy Sane. Jamal Musiala will operate behind the striker since Muller will be starting on the bench. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will lead the line, while Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman will start on the flanks for Bayern.

Augsburg 0-2 Bayern Munich

Augsburg will be facing a much more confident Bayern side than the one they hosted a month ago. Considering Die Roten’s rich vein of form, we are predicting a professional display and victory from the defending Bundesliga champions.
