Bayern Munich tracking Borussia Monchengladbach forward
The attacking department in the current Bayern Munich squad will be strengthened next summer. The record Bundesliga champions are expected to look for a natural number nine in the transfer window. Die Roten has already started exploring various options that can fill this role in the squad from next season.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram is one of the options for Die Roten for the number nine role. According to Sport1, Bayern is monitoring the situation of Thuram at Gladbach. They have sent Markus Pilawa, club’s new chief scout, to watch Thuram in action for Gladbach during matchday eight.
The report from Sport1 insists that there have been no talks with Thuram, but he is one of the options for next summer. The French forward will be available on a free transfer since he has shown no inclination toward signing a new deal at Gladbach.
Thuram has been one of the exciting forwards in the Bundesliga over the last few seasons. After scoring 25 goals across all competitions in his first two seasons at Gladbach, the French forward saw a dip in form last season. However, he has enjoyed a good start to the 2022/23 campaign, scoring seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
The French international can play on either flank, but he has been largely used as a center forward at Gladbach. A big move for Thuram is around the corner if he excels for Gladbach this season. Several big clubs in Europe have been linked with Thuram, but a move has not materialised yet. He will be an attractive option for clubs next summer since his contract at Gladbach expires in 2023.
Thuram will not be able to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski at Bayern, but he surely has the potential to become a well-rounded forward. The French international is expected to get better in the coming seasons as he enters the peak years of his career. There are several pros about a deal to sign Thuram, so it is not surprising to see Die Roten closely monitoring him this season.

Sport1 also insists that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane remains the top target for Die Roten. Considering the enormous financial package needed to conclude this deal, Hasan Salihamidzic has asked scouts to monitor multiple strikers across Europe.
Kane will be a realistic option for Bayern next summer since he will have only one year left on the current contract with Spurs. The Bavarian club has reportedly held initial talks with Kane’s representatives and asked him to stop contract talks with Spurs. If Kane doesn’t sign a new deal in the next eight months, then Bayern will make a move for him. In case the transfer still doesn’t materialize, Die Roten will look at other options, such as Marcus Thuram.
