Bayern Munich: Lucas Hernandez squashes reports about further injury setback
The packed schedule in the ongoing season with the World Cup in November will definitely lead to several injuries to players in Europe. Bayern Munich has already been without a couple of key players for a few weeks due to injuries.
Kingsley Coman missed a few games before and after the international break due to a hamstring injury. The French winger is set to return to the matchday squad against Borussia Dortmund later today. His compatriot-Lucas Hernandez is currently on the sidelines due to an adductor injury.
Hernandez suffered this adductor injury during a 2-0 win against Barcelona in the Champions League before the international break. The French defender was ruled out for four to six weeks. It was a big blow for Die Roten since Hernandez has been in fine form this season.
The Bavarian faithful received a big shock on Friday evening as Sport1 reported that Hernandez’s injury was worse than first thought. The German media outlet insisted that Hernandez may not play for Die Roten in October and faces a race against time to play for France in the World Cup.
Hernandez’s agent quickly dismissed this report while talking to RMC later in the evening. He suggested that Lucas Hernandez will start training on the pitch on Monday and return to action for Bayern by the end of October.
Bayern is yet to issue an update on Hernandez’s injury recovery, so there is a good chance that Sport1 got their story wrong. If Hernandez’s representative is correct, then Die Roten may end up providing an update on Monday about the French international resuming running on the pitch.
Lucas Hernandez will be hoping to play a few games and get back in rhythm before the World Cup. As thing stand, Didier Deschamps will select him if he is fit. Despite missing games during the international break, Hernandez shouldn’t be worried about a place in the French squad. The 26-year-old defender has been a consistent performer for club and country, so he remains a key player for France.

Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano have done a solid job in the heart of defense during the last couple of games. Bayern can ease Lucas Hernandez back into action if they continue to perform well with the center-back pairing of de Ligt and Upamecano. The new center-back pairing will be looking to make it three clean sheets in a row when they start against Borussia Dortmund later today.
