The recently concluded summer transfer window saw numerous departures at Bayern Munich. The defending Bundesliga champions cashed in for several fringe and young players to make way for five new signings. Bayern ended up raising close to €100 million from sales.

Tanguy Nianzou is one of several players that left Die Roten in the summer. The French defender sealed a permanent move to Sevilla late in the transfer window after spending two years in Bavaria. Die Roten also granted the French defender’s wish to switch clubs as long as Sevilla met their transfer demands.

Nianzou arrived at Die Roten in 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. The German club managed to beat competition from several clubs to sign the talented defender. However, things didn’t go as per plans for Nianzou in Bavaria, which led to a permanent transfer to Sevilla in 2022.

Sevilla has not enjoyed a good start to the season, but Tanguy Nianzou is getting consistent playing time in La Liga. While talking to L’Equipe this week (via SportBild), Nianzou revealed reasons behind leaving Bayern. Despite getting less game time at Die Roten in the last two seasons, Nianzou considers time in Bavaria crucial for his development.

"“No. It’s good to progress in training, but you have to play. I haven’t played much in two years. This year is important for me. I made a good choice by joining Sevilla.”“I did not regret joining Bayern. I was disappointed because, like every player, you want to play. But that helped me mentally. Bayern helped me grow. Now I’m aware that nothing can be taken for granted.”"

Tanguy Nianzou also spoke glowingly about Julian Nagelsmann’s coaching at Bayern. The French defender insisted that Nagelsmann helped him in reducing his limitations and improved decision-making on and off the ball, taking calculative risks at the right time.

Nianzou had a poor debut season at Bayern due to injuries. He did play more in his second season, but playing time was nowhere adequate for him at this stage of his career. The French defender’s chancing of getting game time in Bavaria suffered a massive blow when Die Roten signed Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus in the summer.

The French defender’s move to Sevilla was the correct decision for all parties. Bayern made a healthy profit on a player that was signed on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Nianzou will play regularly in La Liga with Sevilla to polish the rough edges of his game.

Bayern will keenly follow Nianzou’s development at Sevilla since they have inserted a buy-back clause in the deal. As per SportBild, Bayern can sign Nianzou back from Sevilla for €50 million until next year. It will increase to €55 million from September 19, 2023. The French defender will eventually get a big move since he has all the qualities to excel as a Center-back. Time will tell if the big move will be back to Bayern Munich.
