Bayern Munich: Lucas Hernandez set for lengthy spell on sidelines

It has been a solid start for Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Bavarian club has registered two great wins against Inter Milan and Barcelona in the last seven days. The latest victory came against Barcelona on Tuesday.

Bayern had to suffer against Barcelona in the first half at Allianz Arena. The German club was second best in all areas of the pitch as the Spanish club pressed intensely and created numerous chances. Robert Lewandowski had three great chances in the first half to open the scoring for Barcelona, but he fluffed his lines.

Die Roten recovered well in the second half and managed to score two quick goals to stun Barcelona. Lucas Hernandez led the response from Die Roten by scoring the opener from a setpiece. The French defender nodded home from the near post after a dangerous delivery from the corner by Joshua Kimmich.

Lucas Hernandez was brilliant for Bayern throughout the game. However, the game ended on an unfortunate note for the French international. He suffered an adductor injury that saw him leave the pitch before the full-time.

The complete prognosis of Hernandez’s injury has provided a big blow to Bayern. The French defender is expected to be out between four to six weeks due to this injury. He is a major doubt for the game against Borussia Dortmund at the start of October.

Meanwhile, Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard suffered minor knocks against Barcelona. Both defenders are expected to be fit for the weekend. Upamecano played the entire game for Die Roten, while Pavard was substituted in the first half due to a hamstring injury. Matthijs de Ligt is likely to get the nod in the heart of the defense for Augsburg on Saturday. The Dutch defender was on the bench against Barcelona.

Bouna Sarr is another Bayern defender that has suffered an injury setback. He is unlikely to play again for Die Roten this year. The Senegalese defender underwent surgery to resolve the knee injury that has troubled him in the last few months. Sarr is expected to miss the World Cup. It remains to be seen if he will be fit before the start of the winter transfer window in January. Sarr is expected to leave Bayern in the near future after falling out of favour under Julian Nagelsmann.
