The last 12 months have been fruitful for Bayern Munich when it comes to contract renewals of key players in the first team. The defending Bundesliga champions had to secure the future of players that form the spine of the team.

Kingsley Coman is one of the big players at Die Roten that signed a contract renewal last season. The French winger signed a new five-year deal at the start of 2022 to bring an end to the speculation around his future. Coman was also reportedly promoted to the leadership group of the squad under Julian Nagelsmann.

Die Roten was expected to listen to offers for Coman in the summer after talks for a new deal reached an impasse at the end of the 2020/21 season. The French winger enjoyed working under Julian Nagelsmann last season, which played a big role in his decision to reject a move away from Bavaria and sign a new deal.

Bayern was also delighted to extend the contract of Coman since finding a suitable replacement would have been an expensive deal. While talking to Kicker last week (via OneFootball), Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn insisted that the club has been impressed by Coman’s development over the last few years.

"“I feel that the contract extension gave him another boost. We told him again how valuable he is to us and how happy we are that we have him.”“I’m happy that King continuously developed in the past years. He’s absolutely world class & an attraction for the fans – one of the best players in the world technically in fast pace, one of the best dribblers and always a threat.”"

Die Roten signed Coman under Pep Guardiola in 2015 on a two-year loan deal. The Bavarian club eventually signed the French winger on a permanent deal in 2017. After delivering quality performances under Guardiola, Coman suffered a lot of injury setbacks. These injury issues severely hampered his development.

Kingsley Coman was often inconsistent since he struggled to get a run of games due to injuries. Things finally started moving in the right direction for Coman under Hansi Flick. The winner against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final three seasons ago was the turning point for Coman.

The French international has become a consistent player for Die Roten in the last three seasons. He has also managed to improve productivity in the final third, which makes him one of the best players at Bayern. Nagelsmann has also shown great faith in Coman by making him part of the leadership group in the first team. The added responsibility may end up helping Coman to bring further improvement in his performances.
