Bayern Munich: Lucas Hernandez keen to extend his stay in Bavaria
Bayern Munich has done a fine job in the last 12 months to secure the future of important players in the squad. The next contract renewal on the agenda for Bayern is that of Lucas Hernandez. The French international has entered the final two years of his deal. It could be straightforward negotiations as both parties are eager to sign a new deal.
According to Sport1, Lucas Hernandez feels settled in Bavaria and remains open to signing a new deal. The French defender is one of the first names in the team for Julian Nagelsmann. Hernandez was subject to interest from PSG this summer, but he had no intention of even talking to interested clubs.
The German media outlet reports that Bayern wants to extend Hernandez’s contract during the current season. The preliminary talks with his agent have taken place, but nothing is advanced as of now. Rekordmeister will probably step up contract talks once the transfer window comes to an end this week.
Lucas Hernandez became Bayern’s record buy in 2019. The Bavarian club managed to beat competition from other clubs to sign the French international from Atletico Madrid. Things didn’t go as planned for Hernandez in his debut season at Die Roten as he struggled with injuries, but his quality was visible in limited appearances.
The French international started getting more playing time in his second season. After the departure of Jerome Boateng and David Alaba, Hernandez’s role in the team became even more pivotal. He is currently the first-choice center-back for Bayern under Julian Nagelsmann.
Hernandez’s performances for Die Roten are likely to get even better in the coming years as he enters the peak of his career. It is crucial for the German Champions to secure his future since he is going to be a big part of their medium and long-term plans. The French international is also likely to become part of the leadership group at Bayern in the near future.
The early contract talks with Hernandez also show that Bayern has learned from their past mistakes. They ended up losing Niklas Sule and David Alaba on free transfers after taking long to begin talks for new deals.

Apart from Hernandez, Die Roten is also expected to open talks with Benjamin Pavard. The French defender was heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria this summer, but he eventually decided to stay put. Julian Nagelsmann also rates him highly, so it is not surprising to see Bayern planning to open contract talks with him. The French defenders are big players for Die Roten, so the Bavarian faithful will be hoping for a quick and positive conclusion in contract talks with them.
