It has been a near-perfect summer transfer window for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club managed to get most of their top transfer targets before the start of the season while selling the wantaway and fringe players for a good fee. The good work done by Die Roten in the transfer window has been reflected in the great run of results on the pitch.

The defending champions only suffered disappointment in their pursuit of signing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. They had three bids rejected for the Austrian midfielder since Leipzig had no plans to part ways with an important player this summer. Laimer will be free to negotiate with clubs in January since he has less than 12 months left on his current deal.

Bayern remains interested in Laimer despite having three bids rejected for him. The Bavarian club will try to sign him on a free transfer next summer as they have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder. However, Die Roten will reportedly face significant competition from a Premier League club for the signing of Laimer.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Liverpool made an attempt to sign Laimer in the past few days, but RB Leipzig was not keen on negotiating the midfielder’s departure. The Merseyside club remains interested in signing the Austrian midfielder, so they may try to complete a pre-contract agreement in January.

Bayern should ideally have an edge in the race to sign Laimer since they have already agreed personal terms with the player. However, Liverpool can also provide an exciting sporting project in probably the biggest league in Europe. It may come down to which club managed to provide Laimer with the best possible project.

The next few months will give more clarity on the future of Laimer. As things stand, he will not be signing a new deal at Leipzig. Since he will be available on a free transfer, more clubs will approach him in the coming months.

For now, Die Roten will be content with options in the midfield department for this season. Marcel Sabitzer’s good start to the season gives Julian Nagelsmann a solid option in the center of the park. Leon Goretzka is also back to complete fitness after making his return against Viktoria Koln.

Meanwhile, Bayern is unlikely to be busy during the final day of the transfer window. The Bavarian club has been busy with arranging loan moves for young players, while Joshua Zirkzee sealed a permanent move to Bologna. Bouna Sarr could be the final departure from the first team this summer if he gets a suitable offer on Wednesday.
