Along with quickly concluding deals for top players this summer, Bayern Munich has also done a great job when it comes to securing the future of key players in the squad over the last 12 months. The defending Bundesliga Champions have made sure that they will have a strong spine in the squad for the foreseeable future.
The Bavarian club managed to thrash out new contracts for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka at the start of last season. Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller also signed short-term deals to continue their long illustrious careers in Munich.
Rekordmeister found a breakthrough in negotiations with Kingsley Coman in January 2022 after reaching an impasse in talks over a new contract at the end of the 2020/21 campaign. The French winger will be staying in Bavaria at least until 2027. Serge Gnabry also signed a four-year deal this summer to bring an end to the speculation over his future.
Bayern also found failure in contract negotiations during the last 12 months. They couldn’t agree new deals with Niklas Sule and Robert Lewandowski. The German defender left in July on a free transfer, while Lewandowski joined Barcelona for a fee close to €50 million.
Die Roten lost David Alaba and Sule on free transfers in two consecutive summer transfer windows. The Bavarian club is eager to avoid such a scenario in the near future. According to Bild, Bayern is planning to open contract talks with Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard. Both French defenders currently have two years left on their contracts.
Hernandez has been settled in Munich after becoming a key player for Die Roten in the last couple of seasons. The French defender has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain in the past, but Bayern has a good chance of keeping him longer than his current deal.
Meanwhile, Pavard was heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria a month ago. The French international wants to play in central defense more frequently since it is his preferred position. The arrival of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in the current transfer window led to speculation around the future of Pavard.
Julian Nagelsmann decided to start the season with Pavard in the right-back position. The French defender has been impressive in the first four games of the season, keeping Mazraoui out of the lineup. As per L’Equipe (via GFFN), Manchester United tried to sign him a few days ago, but Pavard decided to stay put in Munich. Nagelsmann is also eager to keep Pavard in the squad.

Hernandez and Pavard have performed fairly well for Bayern since arriving from Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart for big transfer fees in 2019, respectively. Since both French defenders are entering the peak of their careers, it is a no-brainer for Bayern to offer them new deals and secure their future.
