Bayern Munich: Joshua Kimmich pleased with depth in the squad
The sensational start to the season for Bayern Munich continued on Sunday when they traveled to Bochum on matchday three of the Bundesliga. Die Roten managed to put seven goals past Bochum to deliver another scintillating performance.
Sadio Mane scored the brace for Die Roten in this game. The Senegalese forward has enjoyed the best possible start to the season by scoring in three out of four competitive games. Along with Sane, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry were also on the scoresheet. Matthijs de Ligt also scored his first Bundesliga goal for the Bavarian club.
There is a plethora of attacking options in the current Bayern squad, which gives a good selection headache to Julian Nagelsmann. The German coach replaced injured Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry in the starting lineup with Coman and Sane. Both players responded brilliantly by delivering solid performances.
The depth in the attack will help Die Roten to compete on all fronts. Joshua Kimmich had also special praise for forwards that stepped up in the absence of Musiala and Gnabry. While talking to AZ on Sunday, Kimmich admitted that there is no drop in energy and quality after rotation due to the business done in summer.
"“The good thing is that we’ve not only gotten better across the board, but also at the top. It doesn’t matter who comes in, we lose little in terms of quality and energy. It is very important that everyone knows that they have to step on the gas. You notice that in training and also in the game.”"
Bayern had to part ways with Robert Lewandowski this summer. The Polish striker was keen on starting a new adventure by joining FC Barcelona. Die Roten eventually agreed to a deal with the Spanish club. The Bavarian club secured the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool before sanctioning the sale of Lewandowski.
The defending Bundesliga champions also completed a deal for Rennes forward Mathys Tel to further bolster the attack. The 17-year-old forward is considered the next big attacking talent in France. Meanwhile, the early games of the season have shown that Musiala will also operate in the attacking position.
The likes of Coman, Sane, Mane, and Gnabry are at the peak of their career, while Musiala and Tel are going to get even better with time. Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting provide experience in these positions. There are eight different profiles in the attack, which gives Nagelsmann a lot of tactical flexibility.

Bayern has also added quality midfield and defensive options this summer. Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt have been additions in defense, while Ryan Gravenberch adds quality in the midfield. Nagelsmann and Die Roten will be pleased with the squad assembled this summer as it gives them a good chance of competing for all possible trophies.
