Matthijs de Ligt shines for Bayern in his first Bundesliga start

Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez have been the go-to center-back pairing for Bayern Munich in the first three games of the season. The French duo has performed well, which has allowed Julian Nagelsmann to stick with them and give big summer signing- Matthijs de Ligt time to integrate into the new league.

The Dutch defender got the opportunity to get his first league start of the season after Alphonso Davies was ruled out due to a muscular problem. Hernandez had to slot in the left-back position, while de Ligt partnered with Upamecano in the heart of the defense.

The former Juventus defender delivered a seamless performance on and off the ball against Bochum. De Ligt boasted a pass completion rate of 95% on Sunday. He made five clearances and won the majority of aerial duels against Bochum.

The Dutch international also managed to score his first Bundesliga goal of the season. He was in the right place to capitalize on the mistake from Bochum’s Manuel Rieman. The German goalkeeper failed to claim a dangerous delivery from a corner delivery by Joshua Kimmich. De Ligt made Rieman pay for his mistake by nodding the ball into the net. It was a fine performance from de Ligt in his first league start for Bayern.
