Good game management from Bayern

Bayern Munich managed to blow away Frankfurt and RB Leipzig in matchday one of the Bundesliga and DFL Supercup, respectively. Wolfsburg avoided a similar scenario by going long instead of attracting press from Bayern’s forward by building from the back.

The approach from Wolfsburg didn’t stop Bayern from creating chances, but the frequency of chances was significantly reduced. The brilliance of Jamal Musiala and a great team goal allowed Die Roten to get a two-goal cushion going into the second half.

Wolfsburg’s plan worked to an extent, but Bayern managed to take the sting out of the game to make sure that it was a comfortable evening. Julian Nagelsmann’s men managed the game across 90 minutes in the best possible manner. They increased the tempo whenever needed and slowed it out to take the sting out of Wolfsburg’s momentum while going forward.

Bayern often struggled to manage games in Hinrunde last season. The lack of composure and calmness in the team often led to the concession of poor goals. The performance against Wolfsburg showed that Die Roten and Nagelsmann had learned lessons from last season. Making such types of performances a regularity will help Die Roten significantly to avoid chaos in cup games.
