Kimmich and Sabitzer form a strong partnership in midfield

Bayern started slowly against Wolfsburg, but they always had the game under control despite not creating a plethora of chances. This amount of control across both halves was possible due to the solid midfield pairing of Joshua Kimmich and Marcel Sabitzer. Both of them kept swapping places, which made things even more difficult for Wolfsburg.

Kimmich was on song against Wolfsburg when it came to creating chances. He delivered a pinpoint cross from the corner, which was headed onto the crossbar by Benjamin Pavard. The German midfielder played five key passes in the game and had the most touches on the pitch (91). He kept the play ticking in the midfield and also created good scoring opportunities.

Sabitzer also did a fine job in the center of the park on Sunday. The Austrian midfielder kept the ball brilliantly in difficult situations and boasted a pass completion rate of 91%. Sabitzer provided the dynamism to the midfield, engaging in the duels and breaking up play for Die Roten.

Leon Goretzka has started light training on the pitch. The German midfielder will have to work hard to get a place back in the starting lineup due to the good form of Sabitzer and Kimmich. The unlikely midfield duo has provided the foundation for Bayern’s successful start to the season. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
