Bayern Munich: What do new signings add to the squad?
By Isaac Rivers
Mathys Tel
The signing of Mathys Tel has to be the most interesting out of all the deals completed by Bayern. After only playing in 10 games for a total of 49 minutes in Ligue 1 last season, €28,500,000 seems to be a big fee. However, Nagelsmann and Salihamidzic have faith in the youngster that has people throughout France calling him the next big attacking talent after Kylian Mbappe.
Since Tel is only 17 years old, and with the extensive contract he has signed, it is safe to assume that Bayern is going to take their time in crafting this kid into a world-class striker. He will be looking to add professional minutes into his portfolio this season, so don’t expect him to be the next Lewandowski right away. However, in two or three years, he could have the starting striker spot locked in with his name all over it.
For the time being, Tel provides the option to rest Mané for crucial games or to let him break out on the wing. The role as designated super-sub will work perfectly because right now, Tel’s job is to impress with the playtime he’ll get. However, the pressure is on for him to have some stand-out performances due to the hefty transfer fee.

Bayern will not get instant dividends for the investment made for Tel, but he can surely be a top player for the club in the next decade. It is a big gamble but worth taking it since the market for strikers is difficult and inflated.
