The midfield department at Bayern Munich has witnessed several changes this summer. Marc Roca and Corentin Tolisso has left the club. The Spaniard joined Leeds on a permanent deal, while Tolisso returned to Lyon on a free transfer. Die Roten has also made a very sound addition to this area of the squad by signing Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax.

The Bundesliga Champions are expected to add one more midfielder to the squad before the end of the transfer window. However, the second midfield signing of the summer will not be Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Bavaria on several occasions this summer. Sky Sports in Germany has squashed these rumours and insisted that former Ajax midfielder is not a topic of discussion at Die Roten. He will not be arriving at Bayern either on loan or permanent transfer.

Since the start of the summer transfer window, significant reports across Europe have suggested that Barcelona is looking to offload De Jong. Manchester United has reportedly agreed a fee with the Spanish club, but other top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, continue to be linked with the Dutch midfielder.

Bayern was interested in De Jong when he was playing for Ajax. The Bavarian club wanted to sign Matthijs de Ligt and De Jong in 2019, but both transfers didn’t materialize. The German Champions eventually signed de Ligt this summer, but De Jong will not be arriving in Bavaria.

Barcelona would prefer someone like Bayern to show interest in De Jong to get the best possible fee for him. After spending significant money in other areas, it is doubtful that Die Roten sanctions €80 million for De Jong this summer.

The primary candidate to add further quality to Bayern’s midfield is RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer. The Bavarian club had two bids rejected for Laimer as Leipzig is looking to get €30 million for the Austrian midfielder. Leipzig would ideally like a move away from Bundesliga for Laimer, but only Die Roten has shown the most concrete interest in him until now.

Die Roten has already agreed personal terms with Laimer. A positive conclusion to this transfer was expected this week, but Laimer is now likely to start against Die Roten in DFL Supercup on Saturday. The German Champions will have to come up with an improved offer to seal this transfer before the end of the transfer window. Laimer will most likely be the last incoming in the senior team for this summer.
