Bayern Munich forward goes out on loan to Rangers
It has been a bittersweet day for the attacking area of the senior squad at Bayern Munich. The German Champions reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry extended the contract with Die Roten for four more years.
Along with these high-profile moves in the senior team, there was one more departure confirmed by Die Roten on Friday. Promising young forward Malik Tillman has sealed a loan move to Rangers. While Bayern has confirmed a loan deal, various media outlets have reported that there is an option to buy for the Scottish club.
Tillman currently has two years left on his contract at Die Roten. The Bavarian club will be in a much better position to assess his future next summer. As things stand, it is a significant loan move for the versatile forward. He will get crucial playing time in Scotland to continue his development after impressing at the youth level for Bayern.
The 20-year-old forward has made seven appearances for the senior team. He already has one goal to his name for Bayern. In the current squad at Die Roten, there is intense competition for places in the attacking positions. Moreover, consistent playing time is crucial for Tillman in the World Cup year. He has opted to represent the USA over Germany. The youngster has two caps to his name with the USA senior team. Consistent playing time with Rangers will increase his chances to play in the World Cup in November.
From Die Roten’s point of view, it is a win-win situation with this deal. If Tillman ends up performing well for Rangers, then Die Roten can integrate him into the senior team next summer. The Bavarian club can also get a good fee for Tillman if he performs well at the senior level instead of keeping him for the reserves team in Bavaria.
