Victorious Champions League campaign with Bayern

Robert Lewandowski was initially criticized for not coming good in the knockout games of the Champions League. The Bavarian club was not able to win the Champions League for six seasons since lifting it at Wembley under Jupp Heynckes.

Lewandowski couldn’t maintain his goalscoring exploits in Europe, which eventually attracted criticism in Germany. The Poland international ended up answering his critics by delivering one of the best individual seasons in the Champions League.

After the appointment of Hansi Flick as head coach midway through the 2019/20 campaign, Bayern ended up winning the Champions League. Lewandowski helped Die Roten to dominate some of the best teams in Europe. The Polish striker ended up scoring 15 goals in the ten Champions League games. He ended up scoring against the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona during the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Along with scoring at a consistent rate throughout the Champions League campaign, Lewandowski also worked hard to create chances for his teammates. After years of criticism for not turning up in the Champions League, Robert Lewandowski delivered a season for the ages. It was a disaster and unfortunate for Lewandowski that he was not awarded Ballon d’Or for the year. However, the Bavarian faithful will fondly remember this campaign.
