Bayern Munich clinches most important deal of the summer
It has been a very productive and efficient summer transfer window for Bayern Munich. They have strengthened the key areas of the squad, and more arrivals are expected in the next six weeks. Sadio Mane is the biggest deal for Die Roten this summer, but they have probably concluded the most important piece of business this week.
According to The Athletic, Serge Gnabry has reached an agreement with Bayern over a long-term deal. The German forward has squashed speculations surrounding his future to stay in Bavaria. Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Arsenal had been linked with a move for Gnabry this summer.
SportBild and Sky Sports in Germany have also confirmed the latest development in negotiations between Gnabry and Bayern. The German winger will be signing a contract extension until 2026. The breakthrough in talks came this week, and the official announcement will be made in the coming days.
Serge Gnabry was reportedly eager to sort his future during pre-season. He ended up making the positive decision for Die Roten. It remains to be seen if Die Roten improved the offer or Gnabry accepted the one that was on the table. He will most likely be in the bracket close to the top earners in the squad.
Gnabry has enjoyed a formidable goalscoring record since arriving at the club. After his good loan spell at Hoffenheim in 2017/18, the German winger hit the ground running for Die Roten from next season. In 171 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, Gnabry has scored 64 goals and provided 40 assists.
Along with having a very healthy goal-scoring record, Gnabry’s work ethic is also second to none in the current team. The German international is tailormade for Julian Nagelsmann’s high-pressing style of football. He also has a very good fitness record, averaging at least 40 games every season for Die Roten.

Gnabry had 27 goal contributions (17 goals and 10 assists) last season. He was the club’s second top scorer last season after Robert Lewandowski. Since the Polish striker is expected to leave Bavaria this summer, keeping Gnabry was even more crucial for Die Roten. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
The German international is entering the peak of his career as he turned 27 earlier this week. Bayern has done a great job of securing the future of Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in the last seven months. It is difficult to find quality forwards like them for an affordable fee in the current market. While the new signings will get the attention this summer, the contract renewal of Gnabry is also as good as a new arrival.
