Bayern Munich: Four versatile players in current squad
Thomas Muller
Positions- Attacking midfielder, Second Striker, Right-wing, Left-wing, and Striker
Muller is considered one of the best players in the history of Bayern Munich. The German International has managed to score 269 goals and provide 248 assists while winning an unprecedented 11 Bundesliga titles, six DFB Cups, and two UEFA Champions Leagues.
Much of the Muller debate stems from his somewhat abstract position on the football pitch. The Bayern hero is a square peg that can’t be pigeon-holed, championing a style that has left pundits and opposition players alike scratching their heads for over a decade. He is neither pure center-forward, second striker, attacking midfielder, nor winger but a little bit of all four and much more besides.
Between 2010 and 2020, Muller scored 108 Bundesliga goals. Only his teammate Robert Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus scored more goals in the same period. Moreover, he is leading the assists charts in the Bundesliga with 164 in the same period.
Muller scored 18 goals in 2020–21, 21 in 2019–20, and 17 in 202–21, setting a new single-season record. In the 2019–20 Bundesliga season, he again shattered the assist record (a record previously held by Kevin De Bruyne). He works tirelessly for the team and creates space for his teammates to flourish in the final third. Moreover, Muller is always ready to slot anywhere in the attack to help the team. It will not be a big surprise if he regularly plays as a number nine next season since Robert Lewandowski is likely to join Barcelona this summer.
