Bayern Munich forward subject to interest from Chelsea
It could turn out to be a significant summer transfer window for the forward department of the senior squad at Bayern Munich. The German Champions have reinforced this area by signing Sadio Mane from Liverpool. However, there is a big chance for Robert Lewandowski parting ways with Die Roten this summer to join FC Barcelona.
Along with Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry has also been linked with other clubs due to his contract situation at Bayern. The German winger has entered the final 12 months of his current deal. Chelsea is the latest European giant to show interest in Gnabry.
According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea is weighing up a move for Gnabry after missing out on Leeds winger Raphinha. The Brazilian wide player is expected to join Barcelona despite Chelsea agreeing to a fee with Leeds. Gnabry is one of the alternatives for Chelsea to bolster the attack.
The Daily Mail is also reporting Chelsea’s interest in Gnabry. Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany has reported that Gnabry will not consider a move to Chelsea due to his past ties with Arsenal. He had spent five years at Arsenal between 2012 and 2016. Both English reports suggest that the fee for Gnabry could be close to £45 million.
There has been constant speculation surrounding the future of Gnabry since the start of 2022. It was expected to be straightforward negotiations with the winger as he is settled in Bavaria. However, both parties have not managed to find an agreement over wages. The last improved offer from Die Roten was reportedly rejected by Gnabry.
Bayern cannot afford to lose Gnabry on a free transfer next summer. The German media outlets have reported that Die Roten will be looking to offload Gnabry in the current window if an agreement is not reached regarding a new contract.
Serge Gnabry is expected to make a decision in the coming days after reporting for training at Sabner Strasse at the end of last week. Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic is optimistic about Gnabry’s contract renewal.

The next few days will give a lot of clarity regarding Die Roten’s attack next season. Robert Lewandowski returned to Munich from vacation on Monday. He is expected to be at Sabner Strasse on Tuesday to begin pre-season training, which squashes the rumours of him going on strike to force a move to Barcelona. Die Roten and the Bavarian faithful will be hoping to keep hold of Gnabry and Lewandowski.
