For the fourth summer in a row, Bayern Munich may add a center-back to the squad. After the developments on Monday, it is clear that Die Roten is looking to sign Matthijs De Ligt from Juventus this summer. The Dutch center-back will come in as a replacement for Niklas Sule. The arrival of De Ligt could also be at the expense of another defender in the squad.
According to Sky Sports, Benjamin Pavard could be on his way out of Bayern this summer Pavard is content with life at Bayern, but the signing of Noussair Mazraoui and the possible arrival of De Ligt in Bavaria will significantly limit his playing time.
The French defender is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea. However, a transfer is not imminent as talks have not taken between the clubs and Pavard. Daily Mirror in England has also reported that Chelsea considers Pavard as a possible alternative for De Ligt.
Meanwhile, SportBild is reporting that Pavard could be involved in a swap deal involving De Ligt. However, the German media outlet also insists that Pavard is not pushing for a move yet as he is looking to become the new leader in Bayern’s defense.
Benjamin Pavard has been a consistent performer for Die Roten since arriving from VfB Stuttgart in 2019. He has delivered solid performances in the right-back position, but his preferred position is in the heart of the defense. With the arrival of Mazraoui from Ajax this summer, Pavard will not be the first choice option in the right-back position.
The French international will be competing with the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, and Tanguy Nianzou for a place in the heart of the defense. The arrival of De Ligt will make it difficult for Pavard to play every game. Considering World Cup in Qatar is a few months away, Pavard may look for a move late in the window.
From a financial point of view, it makes sense for Die Roten to cash in on Pavard. The fee for De Ligt will be close to €60-70 million, so Bayern may have to consider selling a defender to raise the necessary funds for this transfer. Pavard has two years left on his contract, and he is entering the peak of his career, so there will good number of interested clubs that will pay a decent fee for him.

As things stand, Pavard is expected to go on the pre-season tour with Bayern. There are likely to be significant developments on his future later in this window. For now, Die Roten will be holding talks with Juventus to win the race for the signing of De Ligt.
